What DX means, in Bondtech INDX
INDX is a novel solution for tool changer systems composed of a single smart tool head serving a limitless amount of thin passive tools.
Multi-color, multi-material, and multi-nozzle applications found the smartest solution available, and we believe it will influence the whole filament 3D printing market from now on.
16th of March 2025,
a date for the 3D Printing History books. Bondtech unveils over two years of research&development in the shape of a video portraying the Bondtech INDX.
The reaction was huge. INDX was very well received, and of course hundreds of questions were asked.
Some have already been answered here. Today we want to begin answering what INDX means. The DX half first.
The Filament Feeders Pre-Tension Management Evolution
Since the QR extruder Bondtech reveiled a better way to manage the filament pre-tension, a critical setting to ensure reliable extrusion. The Quick Release flexible hinge and spring loaded thumbscrew was a first and was later adopted by nearly everyone in the filament 3D printing space.
Later, with the LGX Large Gears eXtruder Bondtech created a novel approach to allow a cam enabled LGX lever to define filament pre-tension in discrete steps to ensure reliable and repeatable results. The red capped lever was a success. Users all over the world welcomed this easy to use feature. In a simple and objective way, we could select the right pre-tension setting to the type of filament in use.
Now, Bondtech created something entirely new once again.
DX Is For Dynamic eXtruder
What is a Dynamic eXtruder
Building on previous innovation, Bondtech now presents the ultimate easy-to-use pre-tension setter. No user intervention, skill or action required.
The INDX uses a new and clever dynamic dual driving technology. The dynamic extruder reacts on its own, and self-adjusts, to the optimal pre-tension required to print any material, at any requested volumetric flow, and under any 3D printing conditions.
What else is the Dynamic eXtruder doing
This novel dynamic approach is also what allows for the large dual drive gears to mechanicaly open wider and close tight so the filament can be both front on/off loaded and fed.
the INDX‘s gearbox, engineered by the Bondtech team, uses one single light and powerful stepper motor (also used on the LGX Lite Pro) to drive the filament and to engage the thin passive tools.
The result? Reduced weight and minimal multi-tool complexity achieved.
NOTE: Because the Dynamic eXtruder is a patent pending technology, additional mechanical and structural details will only be disclosed at a later time.
