You Built Your Freedom.
INDX Expands Your Boundaries.
The automatic tool-changing system that lets you keep your printer,
your firmware, and your freedom.
Bondtech INDX
Bondtech INDX is an automatic tool-changing system using wireless induction heating
and contactless temperature sensing to enable thin, passive tools. This architecture
delivers rapid filament swaps and contamination-free multi-material printing with
adaptive Dynamic Dual Drive technology.
Blazing fast tool swaps
Near zero purge waste
Wireless and contactless sensing
Induction Heating
Material Versatility
Unmatched access to materials, colors, and nozzle sizes — all in a single print.
Print carbon fiber nylon with TPU supports. Switch from 0.4mm to 0.8mm mid-print. Combine PLA with soluble PVA. The only limit is your imagination.
Universal Flexibility
Works with your firmware: Klipper, Marlin, RRF, and whatever you're running.
Your Voron? Enhanced, not replaced. Your custom firmware?
Supported, not locked out. Your community mods? Celebrated, not
controlled.
Creative Freedom
Freedom to experiment, build, and push the limits of your ideas.
Load filaments once, print all day. Adaptive extrusion eliminates
per-material tuning. Start with 3 tools, scale to 6, then beyond.

Hear From Our Beta Testers
These makers volunteered to test alpha units, work through the rough edges, and clear the path for everyone who comes after them.
"
I am impressed with the simplistic design and overall versatility of the INDX kit.

"
Been testing for a few weeks, the simplicity and robustness of the design has blown me away. Both in terms of the hardware and the software side. [...]
But truly, the whole nozzle swap mechanism is so elegant to me, and the fact that it's all vanilla macros is just amazing.
I really hate abstracting tool changing/multi material behind a plugin.

Bondtech's approach to multimaterial printing is clever and innovative. INDX is easier to build, setup, and operate than the systems that have come before it.
Print quality and speed are both good.

Bondtech INDX FAQ
All answers are subject to change as the product is currently under development.
Bondtech INDX is an automatic tool-changing system for FDM/FFF 3D printers that uses wireless rapid induction heating and contactless infrared temperature sensing to enable thin, passive tools with no electrical/data connections. This architecture allows rapid filament swap and contamination-free multi-material, multi-nozzle, and multi-color printing. Featuring adaptive Dynamic Dual Drive technology that responds to filament properties and printing conditions, with firmware-agnostic compatibility.
On the multi-material-color-nozzle printing space, the INDX is solving the required high marginal investment for each additional tool; long printing times; hardware, material and energy waste.
The INDX is for all people to make 3D prints with several materials, colors and/or nozzle diameters on the same print or print job. People can also prepare and park tools to quickly pick and use on later prints.
- It’s self-adjusting. The extruder on the smart tool head self-adjusts without user action to:
- different filaments;
- required volumetric flow;
- other printing conditions.
- It’s hotendless. The INDX uses thin passive tools with no hotend and requires one single smart tool head for multi-material application.
- It’s contactless and wireless. The INDX heats up the nozzles and reads their temperature without contact to, or wires on, the tools.
- It’s near massless. The INDX nozzles broke tradition and are so low thermal mass that all heating power is mostly used to directly melt plastic.
- It’s super-fast. The INDX currently takes just up to 12 seconds to complete each tool change. It cools down very fast and minimizes oozing. It heats up even faster to quickly resume printing. Currently it may take as little as 4 seconds to reach printing temperature.
We will continue to develop INDX with our community in the following months. Pre-sales were launched at Formnext in November 2025, with retail sales opening Q2 2026.
We aim for the INDX to be a cost-efficient tool changer. Targeting for each thin passive tool to cost around 35 EUR/USD and for the smart tool head to cost around 350 EUR/USD.
Yes, both INDX Thin Passive Tools and INDX Smart Tool Head will be available to purchase separately.
We always do. Bondtech INDX will be tested by a limited group of highly skilled and motivated people we trust to give us useful and relevant feedback to improve our systems. This feedback will include testing data gained by following protocols as well as stress testing the system.
We received over 500 Beta Tester applications and the process selection is now started. The application period is over. For the time being we will not process additional requests.
Yes, INDX is protected by patents. We’ve secured IP for specific, novel technologies at its core, without targeting existing tool-changing features or limiting others from creating tool changers. Our focus is on protecting what makes INDX unique, while encouraging innovation, open-source collaboration, and non-commercial projects. Commercial use of INDX’s IP protected aspects requires proper licensing to ensure fair and sustainable growth.
Our submitted patents, trademarks, and industrial design protections serve several important purposes: they give us the freedom to operate without interference, help generate the revenue that fuels continued innovation, and safeguard our Partners and their INDX-embedded creations. These passionate creators build the remarkable machines that bring real value to all of us.
DX is short for Dynamic eXtruder. INDX uses a new and clever dynamic dual driving technology that self-adjusts, to the optimal pre-tension required to print any material, at any requested volumetric flow, and under any 3D printing conditions. Click here to know more
