The patents behind our technology
We patent the specific mechanisms we invent, so we can fund the next ones. This page lists, product by product, the patents and applications that cover them.
Passive Tools, contactless heat and sensing
Products Bondtech INDX Toolhead · INDX Development Kit · INDX Passive Tools · Bondtech INDX for the Prusa CORE One+
Date Filed 9 July 2020 (US priority 63/049,789) · Mats Moosberg
Tools with no electrical connectors wait in a dock, each preloaded with its own material. One print head picks a tool, feeds filament into it from above and heats its lower part without contact, for example by induction, and measures its temperature without contact, for example with an infrared sensor reading a surface on the tool. Patented by Mats Moosberg in 2020 and developed into INDX together with Bondtech.

Open Front-Load and Dynamic eXtruder (DX)
Products Bondtech INDX Toolhead · INDX Development Kit · Bondtech INDX for the Prusa CORE One+
Date Filed 18 November 2024 · Jonathan Bondéus, Mats Moosberg, Magnus Burgemeister
Open Front-Load: the extruder has an opening along its length. The drivegears move apart, the filament and its tool leave sideways, the next ones come in sideways and the drivegears close again. Dynamic eXtruder (DX): each drivegear pivots around its own double gear, so the harder the filament resists, the harder it is gripped, while a linking mechanism keeps both drivegears centred.

A single motor feeds the filament and engages the tools
Products Bondtech INDX Toolhead · INDX Development Kit · Bondtech INDX for the Prusa CORE One+
Date Filed 6 March 2026 · Mats Moosberg, Magnus Burgemeister, Joel Lennartsson
An activating member inside the head connects the extruder motor, the one that feeds the filament, to the opening mechanism, but only during a tool change, so no extra motor is needed. A magnet in the Tool Dock moves it without contact, through the wall of the head, and the same movement can lock and unlock the tool. During printing, a magnet holds it out of the way.
