Direct Drive Upgrade
This LGX™ based upgrade kit is an easy to install replacement of the stock direct drive extruder. It requires the accessories included in the LGX™ Accessories for MK3S & Mosquito package.
Easy To Install
Very intuitive and easy to install upgrade kit where the extruder faces the X-carriage reducing the distance between the nozzle and the x-axis.
Leading Grip Power
The LGX™ is the Bondtech extruder with the highest filament grip due to its new large drive wheels that put more teeth engaging the filament.
MMU Compatibility
This upgrade kit is not compatible with any MMU version.
Custom Firmware Required
You need to update your Prusa’s firmware to use this product.

Community Sourced Design
This extruder design is based on Gerd Jentz‘s project posted on GitHub. To check the project and its geometry files click here. To his project we made some small adjustments and added our own filament sensor housing and X-carriage design, compatible with the stock MK3S X-axis.

3D Printed Housing using PA12
The housing parts are professionally printed with nylon for maximum strength and precision and higher temperature resistance.
Working Temperature Limits
Bear in mind the working temperature limit of this upgrade kit will have the following set of limits:
- Due to the stepper motor > up to 70°C.
- The PA12 parts themselves can withstand up to 100°C.

To use the LGX®, run the stepper motor with currents between ~0.45 and ~0.65A:
Be vigilant regarding the stepper motor surface temperature.
Keep it cool enough to touch. Lower Vref otherwise. - Class H motor, rated up to 180°C
- Max recommended environment : 70°C
- Max temperature at this environment temperature can go up to 130°C on account of the self heating.

How to change the Current using Vref
It is very hard to read the current being fed to stepper motors. To determine that current we rely on the Vref value. The Vref value is a voltage reference measured in VDC that can be read using a multimeter. It helps us setting the current output of the stepper motor driver.
Different 3D printer mainboards use different stepper motor drivers. Each type of stepper motor drivers has its own formula to calculate the required Vref to get a specific current. Here are some examples:
- TMC stepper drivers.
The formula for these drivers is Vref = ( I * 2.5 ) / Imax
Where I is the target current value measured in A; and Imax is 1.77 on regular mode and 1.2 on SilentStepSticks mode. - Pololu A4998.
The formula for these drivers is Vref = I * 8 * R
Where I is the target current value measured in A; and R is the Sense Resistor value, that depends on what board are you using. Melzis use 0.1. The Creality Silent boards use 0.15, ...

Before installing this upgrade kit you need to remove the whole printhead carriage and save all cabled items to re-use them later.
In case you need guidance to strip down the printer, use the following “Strip down Prusa MK3S” guide.
03 – Finishing The Installation
- 00:06 Prepare Mosquito base
Place nuts on housing
Install PINDA screw loosely – 1x M3x16 countersunk - 2.0 hex key
Install Mosquito hotend – 2x M2.5x6 – 2.0 hex key
Install front cover – 3x M3x35 - 2.5 hex key - (not M3x30 as mentioned in the video)
Install PTFE tube – 14.3mm length - 03:07 Prepare LGX
Release the stepper motor
Turn motor 90 degrees
Tighten stepper motor
Remove Push-fit Collar 04:17 Install LGX on Mosquito base - 04:52 Prepare Sensor housing
Insert sensor on housing
Verify the spring movement- 05:33 Install sensor housing
Arrange cable behind extruder- 06:10 Install X-Carriage front – 4x M3x20 – 1x M3x8 - 2.5 hex key
- 07:04 Install Fan Holder
Insert the hex-nuts (re-use from stock) – 2xM3x10 - 2.5 hex key07:43 Install fan shroud – 1x M3x10 - 2.5 hex key - 08:08 Mount 5015 fan – 2x M3x20 - 2.5 hex key
- 08:56 Connect stepper motor cable
- 09:09 Mount 4010 fan – 4x M3x12 - 2.5 hex key
Arrange cables above fan- 10:02 Install PINDA
Tighten loosely. Later height will be adjusted.- 10:47 Install Heater and Thermistor
Use Boron Nitride Paste- 13:13 Attach print-head to X-axis
Insert square nuts and zip-ties on x-carriage front
Attach print-head to X-carriage- 15:18 Install X-axis belt
Pass the belt through
Trap the belt on the x-carriage grooves
Tension the belt- 15:58 Install X-carriage rear
Remove cable holder
Place the hex nut and attach cable holder
Pass cables through X-carriage rear
Attach rear to X-carriage front- 19:50 Sleeve all cables
Insert the cable mesh’s spine and sleeve top cables
Insert top zip-ties and tighten them
Insert bottom zip-ties and tighten them
Trim the zip-ties
